Photoshop

  • Reported by Nate

I think I'll start posting keyboard shortcuts as I figure them out, perhaps this way I can remember them better. Here's one: In pshop 6, when typing, break out of the type tool with ctrl + enter (win), and I assume cmnd + enter (mac). Save a trip to the mouse, and use ctrl + alt + shift + "s" to export gif and jpgs. This keyboard shortcut stuff is pretty basic, but I've realized lately that my command of the keyboard shortcut timesaving features are limited. I'm waisting time with my mouse.

You can also use the 'Enter' key on the number pad to break out of the type tool (PS6 on Windows). Just thought I'd give you another way of doing it. FYI, there's a pretty good list available at http://www.spoono.com/tutorials/photoshop/shortcut/

Oh great! Thanks very much Alex, I'm printing out this list right now. Looks like there's other interesting stuff on this site as well, such as this list of php stuff.

Oh, if you like keyboard shortcuts, you'll like the http://www.nerdybooks.com/ newsletter that comes out once a week with shortcut tips. I have their books, too... good stuff. Not connected. Not bribed to say this.

Thanks for the tip Meryl, I'm interested to see what their photoshop tip book will be like once it comes out. I found some more shortcut stuff for photoshop and illlustrator, I suppose I should have done a basic googling before posting:
Crazy shortcut things to paste to your monitor
Builderdotcom Illustrator Shortcuts (version?)
Builderdotcom Photoshop Shortcuts (version?)
Builderdotcom Flash Shortcuts (version?)
Best yet: Adobe's Cross Product Keyboard Shortcuts for Photoshop, Illustrator and Pagemaker. A nice pdf document is available on this page.

try working on PS 6 and quarkXpress all day long in prepress. you HAVE TO use shortcuts, otherwise there's no time left at the end of the day to say... surf daily stops, like web-graphics. ;)

Jason, brings up a point which leads to a larger question - I'll start a fresh post with it.

Sometime last year I summarised a bunch of Photoshop shortcuts and other tips for a friend. This thread prompted me to put them online: Photoshop Tips. Don't forget you can make your own keyboard shortcuts, using the Actions macros. For example, I can't do without the following on function keys: Image Size, Canvas Size, Selection Expand & Contract, Stroke, Unsharp Mask, etc.

Last night I found the mother of all keyboard shortcuts. Shift + Control + Alt + K launches a window inside Photoshop and Illustrator that shows a map of all of the keyboard shortcuts and gives you the ability to edit all of them.

Trying it now, Pepe, but all I'm getting is the Preferences dialog box (which is on Ctrl-K)

Oops, I got confused... It only works in Illustrator.
